Launch of Knowledge Hub for Water Resources Management in Mountainous Areas
Kathmandu, Nepal: 4 July 2010

The International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD) is organizing a launch of the regional water knowledge hub for water resources management in mountainous areas tentatively entitled "ICIMOD as an APWF Knowledge Hub on: Water Management in the Mountains: One Year Experience" to be held on 4 July 2010 in Kathmandu, Nepal. 7th Asia-Pacific Water Forum (APWF) Governing Council Meeting
PUB WaterHub, Singapore, 2 July 2010

The APWF will hold its 7th Governing Council meeting at the PUB WaterHub, Learning Oasis Room, 80 & 82 Toh Guan Road East, Singapore. The different member institutions of the APWF are expected to report on various committed concrete initiatives to the Council. In addition, the APWF KnowledgeHubs Secretariat will provide an update to the Governing Council on various initiatives undertaken by the various Hubs as well report on the outcome of the 1st APWF KnowledgeHubs Steering Committee which will be held the day before at the same venue. APWF KnowledgeHubs Steering Committee Meeting
PUB Water Hub, Singapore: 01 July 2010

The Asia-Pacific Water Forum (APWF) KnowledgeHubs Secretariat is organizing the 1st APWF KnowledgeHubs Steering Committee meeting to be held in the morning of 1 July 2010 (9:00 am to 12:00 noon) at the PUB WaterHub, 80 Toh Guan Road East, Singapore. On the agenda are a discussion of the results of the KnowledgeHubs Learning Week in last April, the work plan for 2010-2011, and proposals for new initiatives. Steering Committee members Vadim Sokolov of SIC-ICWC, Herath Manthrithilake of IWMI, and Mark Pascoe (on behalf of Peter Oliver) of IWC are expected to attend. Sanitation Knowledge Hub Seminar: How Can Regional Knowledge HubsPromote the Most Suitable Technology for Wastewater Treatment?

The Asia-Pacific Water Forum (APWF), Japan Sanitation Consortium (JSC), Japan Global Center for Urban Sanitation (GCUS), PUB Singapore, and the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP) are organizing a seminar entitled "How can Regional Knowledge Hubs Promote the Most Suitable Technology for Wastewater Management? (Sanitation Knowledge Hub Seminar)" on 30 June 2010 in Suntec Singapore International Convention and Exhibition Centre at the Singapore International Water Week (SIWW) 2010. The organizers and participants will discuss the role that regional Knowledge Hubs must play in promoting the most suitable technology for wastewater treatment. APWF Water KnowledgeHubs Learning Week
ADB Headquarters, Manila, Philippines: 19-23 April 2010

The Asia Pacific Water Forum (APWF), in collaboration with ADB, UNESCO-IHE and PUB Singapore, organized the 1st Water KnowledgeHubs Learning Week on 19- 23 April 2010 in ADB, Philippines. 27 participants from 15 out of the 17 APWF water knowledge hubs joined the event. 12 speakers covered a broad range of topics covering the theoretical practice of knowledge networking, actual experiences by the International WaterCentre (IWC) in Australia, the International Centere for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD) in Nepal and UNESCO-IHE's experience in the Nile Basin, to the practical tools necessary to implement networking activities. Perhaps the most important activities undertaken by the participants were

  • the strategic planning session, which helped identify the direction and priorities the KnowledgeHubs program should take
  • the session that identified the immediate activity that the knowledge hubs expected to perform in 2010

There was a strong recognition that the promotion and support of the KnowledgeHubsprogram to help governments, policy makers, funding institutions, local governments and other clients is key to helping address Asia's water problems. See event details.

Yellow River Conservancy Commission (YRCC) Awarded as the 2010 Lee Kuan Yew Water Prize
Singapore: 3 March 2010

The Singapore International Water Week announced on 3 March 2010, that the Yellow River Conservancy Commission (YRCC) was awarded this year's Lee Kuan Yew Water Prize for 2010. YRCC bested 49 other nominees to become the third recipient of the Lee Kuan Yew Water Prize. The Lee Kuan Yew Water Prize is a prestigious award that recognizes outstanding contributions towards solving global water problems by either applying technologies or implementing polices and programs which benefit humanity. The Lee Kuan Yew Water Prize Council recognized YRCC's remarkable progress in overcoming natural and man-made challenges through innovative and sustainable policies and solutions that have enabled the Yellow River to flow unabatedly over the last 10 years. YRCC is the the host organization of the Center for Hydroinformatics in River Basins (CHIRB) - the regional water knowledge hub for decision support systems for river basin management (hydroinformatics). Launch of Knowledge Hub for Water and Climate Change Adaptation in South Asia
New Delhi, India: 4 February 2010

The Energy and Research Institute (TERI) organized a workshop on Fostering Regional Cooperation for Water Security and Governance in South Asia on 4 February 2010 in New Delhi, India to launch its hub for Water and Climate Change Adaptation in South Asia. Mr. Ashok Jaitly, Distinguished Fellow and Director of the Water Resources Division of TERI welcomed all the participants and introduced the TERI knowledge hub as a repository of knowledge that will be beneficial for the South Asian region.
